Maybelline the Falsies – Review

You know I love mascara, so here is another mascara review.  You’ve probably heard or seen the hype about “the Falsies” by Mabelline. This mascara comes in three shades, Blackest Black, Very Black, and Brownish Black. I purchased Blackest Black.

I know that the ads are not women’s natural lashes – they are either photoshopped or they are using fake lashes. This misleading advertising is something nearly all drugstore brand and even many high-end brands do and has been debated across the beauty community. It is because of these ads that I originally decided to do all these mascara comparisons.

Maybelline says this mascara delivers 300% more visible, fuller lashes without clumping.

So how did I like this mascara?  To start, the packaging is not great. It feels cheap (probably because it is) and it is too thick. My hands are pretty small and this is the thickness of a decent sized cigar which makes it difficult to maintain control with a steady hand.  The wand has a flexible area which also makes it more difficult for me to get the brush exactly where I want it. The brush is spoon shaped which is supposed to compliment the natural curve of your eyelid.

What about the product itself?

The product is a true black which is good since I bough Blackest Black.

Here is what it looks like on (before and after)

                           Before                                                                      After

Yes, it made my lashes look thicker, and more visible. It did have some minimal clumping.  It also flaked off after about 8 hours. With my 12 hour work days that is a no-go for me.  I think the mascara delivers mostly what was advertised, but overall I was not very impressed. It claims to be easy to remove, and most of it comes off easily, but I always ended up with black smudges the next morning from some I apparently didn’t remove fully – which is odd because that has never happened to me with other mascaras.  It is an $8.00 retail, and to me it performs like an $8.00 mascara. I am not going to repurchase this again.

Have any majorly hyped products let you down?
